Although China may be better known for its tea, a culture which dates back 5000 years, coffee production is increasingly taking more centre stage. China has been in the top 20 worldwide coffee producers since 2016, however, with a rich agricultural heritage and ideal growing conditions, the nation is poised to increase production in both quality and quantity over the next decade.

Today coffee is mostly grown in Yunnan, a Province in southeastern China that shares its border with Myanmar. Yunnan Province contributes up to 98% of the country’s coffee production, which is split between medium-to-large sized estates and smallholder farmers. Within Yunnan the main regions of cultivation are Baoshan, Dehong, Menglian and Pu'er.
The Yunnan region is rich in ecological diversity and, with tea and rice production very much at its cultural heart, has a deep heritage in agriculture. This makes for some exceptional growing conditions and farming attitudes, creating some truly unique cup profiles.
