Research and development enhancing yields whilst reducing growers costs:

Below is some anecdotal evidence of the positive social and environmental impact Canon Garth and its partners are pursuing in origin:

Zambia:

Secured formal Government release of 2 varieties introduced by CG
7mt/ ha yield achieved
New seed variety distributed to 1,200 contracted small scale farmers in Crop Year 2019/20.

Malawi:

140 hectares of seed production planted in 2019
4 new short cycle varieties
Early yield results showing 5mt/ha achievable
Exciting progress re drought tolerant varieties
Extensive R&D ongoing at commercial hub farm
Focus on crop diversification (+ crop rotation) for tobacco farmers.

Mozambique:

First year of trials with 700 small scale farmers
Focus (like Malawi) on rotation/ diversification opportunity for tobacco farmers.

Providing training and extension services to small scale farmers:

Extensive Training & Extension provided by CG and partners. Training focused on:

Agronomy/ crop protocols from planting through growing cycle
Harvest
Post harvest management to optimise quality/mitigate risk of aflatoxin

Development of 'best practice' protocols for Small Scale Farmers:

Input programs include seed, inoculant, fungicide, gypsum.
Season split into 3 main parts with training for each part conducted by training team.
Regular follow ups and crop monitoring conducted by in-house field agents.

Input Supply:

Input packs distributed to circa 1,900 Malawi farmers during 2019/20 season, many of which were to Women Farmer Groups
High quality seed produced in-house to international standards (all seed processing conducted in-house)
All inputs finance by CG local entities
